Created around the year 800 by Celtic monks, the Book of Kells is one of the most celebrated works of medieval art. For centuries, it was kept at the monastery at Kells in County Meath, where its richly illuminated pages were treasured by the monastic community. In the 17th century, during a period of turmoil in Ireland, the manuscript was brought to Trinity College Dublin for safekeeping. Trinity College has preserved this extraordinary treasure since 1661.
Every artist has a moment when inspiration becomes something more than admiration. For me, that moment came while standing before the Book of Kells itself. The intricate lines, luminous colors, and quiet devotion woven into its pages revealed a visual language that still speaks across more than a thousand years.
